The Cowichan Valley region is well known for being called “the Warm land” by local first nations peoples.

The Valley is sheltered by a ridge of high mountains on the west side and warmed by the ocean to the east. Sharing similar growing conditions as the northern regions of Germany and France our warm summers, temperate mild winters and gravelly soils suit some recognizable grape varietals like Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Ortega, Marechal Foch as well as some fabulous blackberry dessert wines. Experience the traditional grape varieties of Europe handcrafted from a new world terrier. The wineries of Vancouver Island are comparable with those from some of the top wine destinations around the world.

Each and every winery has its own unique style; the welcoming staff is always happy to share tastings of their favourite wines.  Here are only some of the incredible vineyards in the valley to check out including Blue Grouse Winery, Rocky Creek Winery, Zanatta Winery, Cherry Point Estate Vineyards, Glenterra Vineyards, Silverside Fruit Winery, Venturi-Schulze Vineyard Damali Lavendar & Winery and the Merridale Cidery. There are various locally organized wine tours which can be booked. Full day tour visits to four wineries including pick up and drop off at central downtown locations, tasting charges at all locations and a vineyard tour. On our full day tour discover some of the secrets of food and wine pairing during lunch overlooking the vineyard.

Locally in Nanaimo and in the Regional District there is a large compliment of incredible vintners whom harvest local grapes to produce award-winning wines. Wine tours in the area are highly recommended with some on the most wonderful wineries sampling their products. The Noble Beast Winery, Mooberry Wine along side of the Little Qualicum Cheeseworks, the Millstone Estate Winery and Chateau Wolff Estate.  A bit further north, in Courtenay/Comox you would be thrilled to visit 40 Knots Vineyard and Estate, Stones Throw, Coastal Black, Beaufort Vineyards or the Raven Moon Craft Cidery
